How a Few Simple Remedies Stopped My Gout Pain—And the Secrets That Have Kept Me Gout-Free for Over a Decade

Have you recently been diagnosed with gout? Or, have you been battling gout for a while now … and losing?

If this sounds like you, great news, you’ve come to the right place.

My name is Bert Middleton … and I know your pain!

Over a decade ago, I was losing my own personal battle against gout until I discovered some simple secrets that helped me overcome the short-term pain … and then some lifestyle secrets that have helped me stay gout free for over 10 years now.

I can’t promise these remedies will work for everyone, but they’ve completely changed my life—and the lives of many others I’ve shared them with.

You’re not alone in this battle, and I hope my story helps you in some way!

The crystals responsible for gout attacks, known as monosodium urate crystals, are needle-shaped structures formed from uric acid. Their accumulation in the joints leads to inflammation and intense pain.

Here’s a quick recap of what happens to your body during an active gout flare. Make sure you take a second to read this, so you can better understand the solutions.

You probably already know that uric acid is a normal chemical “floating” inside your body which is usually in a fluid state … but when you have too much uric acid it stops “floating” and “deposits” into one or more of your joints.

These deposits are tiny, sharp needle-shaped crystals of uric acid … and yeah, they’re seriously painful! So your body in all its wisdom sends in “the troops” and creates an inflammatory response.

Basically, inflammation is your body’s way of forcing you to stop what you’re doing and course correct.

  • Minimize the pain of inflammation
  • Increase the excretion of uric acid
  • Minimize the production of uric acid

Some people say gout pain is the worst pain a person can ever experience (and I totally agree …) Once the pain of a mind-numbing gout attack starts, all you can think about is how to get rid of it.

But, here are 7 ways you can reduce the pain and help the attack come to an end quickly.

These easy to follow methods can help you get fast relief in the comfort of your home.

All of these steps listed below work because they help bring your body tissues from an acidic chemistry toward a more alkaline chemistry. In other words, they help bring down your uric acid levels naturally … which is what a real gout treatment is supposed to do.

Take fast action to start the process of alkalizing. It’s not difficult and the faster you start, the faster you will get relief.

In this blog, I share a variety of methods to knock out a gout attack at home, but this formula is by far the fastest.

The recommendations in Kill Your Gout Now! include natural, easy-to-find items from your local grocery store—and they can start relieving your pain in as little as 4 hours.

The simple formula I give you in Kill Your Gout Now! works in two ways:

  1. By keeping the uric acid that has not yet crystallized in solution (in a liquid state) so that it does not crystallize, and
  2. By helping dissolve the uric acid crystals that did form (and caused your gout attack) so that they go back into a liquid state and can be eliminated.

This is the formula that helped me overcome the short-term pain of gout attacks and it became the foundation of a gout-free lifestyle, that’s allowed me to live free of gout for over 10 years now.

During an active gout attack, it’s important not only to eat a low-purine diet, but also to eat alkaline forming foods.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Cherries are packed with a specific category of antioxidants called anthocyanins and flavonoids. These antioxidants are very anti-inflammatory when they come from the right sources.

One thing to mention right away is that evidently, studies have shown that tart cherries are better than black or any other type of cherries.

In addition to all the great stuff about cherries and how they can help reduce the pain and swelling of a gout attack, you can enjoy cherries all year round, even if you don’t have access to fresh cherries.

Organic frozen cherries and high quality cherry juice are great alternatives and easily found at health food stores everywhere.

Celery is another important mineral-rich, alkalizing food that is loaded with anti-inflammatory antioxidants.

In addition to the anti-inflammatory effect, it can help with kidney function and the excretion of uric acid, as well as act as a xanthine oxidase inhibitor.

The medicinal qualities of celery are found in the fresh stalks. I recommend eating 4-8 stalks of fresh celery daily (if possible).

A few other alkalizing foods you should try to include in your diet during an active gout flare are:

Apples
Bananas
Yogurt – Whole fat (not low fat), Organic, plain (unsweetened)

You can get the full gout diet below!

Really, this should be first on the list of what to do for gout attacks. Water is by far the most important nutrient your body needs, but this is especially true during a gout flare.

Water is the “transportation system” that moves things around inside your body. In this case, your body needs copious amounts of water to move the uric acid out of your joint, and out of your body.

Water helps flush out toxins, including the pain causing uric acid crystals of a gout attack. Make sure to stay especially well hydrated during a gout attack.

Alkaline water is the best type of water for gout.

Alkaline water has been a piece of my gout-killing formula for years, but recently a 2024 study in the journal of medicine confirmed that people with gout who added alkaline water to their diet experienced less joint pain and swelling vs. others who didn’t. The results also revealed less inflammation, and lower uric acid levels.

sleep-rest

The importance of sleep should not be underestimated if you are trying to get over a gout attack. Sleep gives our bodies the chance to “repair” what is broken.

In the case of gout, what is broken is your body’s internal chemistry. Sleep helps to bring the chemistry back to its healthy normal balance, and this is essential for ending a gout attack.

So, turn off the TV, turn out the lights, and get to sleep.

Also, try to avoid stress as excessive stress can worsen your gout attack. If possible, I recommend that you clear your schedule for the next 24 hours …

If you can’t that’s okay, but if you can afford the time away get some rest and relax. It will help you recover much faster.

One of the easiest ways of getting pain relief is by applying a towel-wrapped ice pack on the affected area. This can help reduce the inflammation and will numb the joint and relieve pain.

Elevate and ice the affected joint several times per day. Make sure to limit the use of ice packs to only about 15 minutes at a time.

Also try soaking the affected joint in an epsom salt bath (they are very alkaline, and will penetrate the skin helping to dissolve the uric acid crystals.) Soak for 20 minutes in water that is warm, not hot.

Another immediate thing you can do for gout is improve your blood oxygenation levels.  Low blood oxygen levels equate to high acidity levels, which contribute to high uric acid levels.

The intense pain of a gout attack can lead to shallow breathing, which is the opposite of what you need.

Here are some quick tips to get you started breathing more fully for better blood oxygenation:

Inhale slowly through your nose for 5 seconds. Hold that breath for 5 seconds. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 5 seconds. Pause for 5 seconds, and repeat!

To end your gout for good, Kill Your Gout Now! is just the first step.

The very best thing to do for a gout attack … is to stop it before it happens!

Believe me, it’s a lot simpler to prepare your body to resist gout attacks than to fight an active flare.

If you’re like me, I bet you’ve tried everything you can to stop the pain.

Taking prescribed meds, supplements, changing your diet, and trying anything else that might help.

It took me over ten years to figure out what I was doing wrong, and my guess is you’re making a lot of the same mistakes I was!

You deserve to get out of pain fast and leave gout pain behind once and for all.

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
