Maybe you’ve seen this new gout study about Vitamin C not being effective at getting rid of gout.  Personally I’m very disappointed that it’s gotten so much press.  Supplements can be very helpful part of a well thought out gout diet of nutrient dense whole foods, properly prepared.

The Highlights of the Vitamin C Gout Study

There are a few things to keep in mind the next time you see the headlines about this gout study that claims vitamin C does not help with gout. Here it is in bullet points:

  • This study was a small randomized pilot study in New Zealand (40 patients with gout)
  •  The study claims no help to standard ULT therapy (Urate Lowering Therapy – Allopurinol)
  • The study claims vitamin C was clinically ineffective as a stand alone treatment (500mg p/day)
  • A previous gout study of 1387 men showed positive results with varying doses of vitamin C

So Why All The Hoopla?

Here’s what I think…

First of all, this is a small study of a bunch of guys with gout. Half them were on allopurinol already and the other half started on allopurinol at the beginning of the study. How old were each of them? When did each of them first get gout? What are their personal health histories; drugs and alcohol, toxic chemicals, recurrent chronic stress, fast food at every meal, chronic liver and kidney disease? Who knows! There are a million variables!

Now millions of people who have gout – and there are millions more that already have sky-high uric acid that haven’t even had their first gout attack yet – that are turned off to vitamin C and all the TRUE health benefits it offers! Isn’t this called “throwing the baby out with the bath water”?!

MY tophi when away!!!! It was there for a month, then it started leaking, i pressured it , rub it , and the clear gel came out then a little blood, now it’s gone, my finger looks normal (except for the inflamation it has). In January I changed my diet, no meat, very little chicken, lots of veggies, tofu, fish, and lots of alkaline water, lemons, and of course walking 3 or 4 times a day about 2 miles each, keeping busy yard work, washing my car, being positive, I took combination of Gout, Joint, kidney, liver, multi-vitamins, read a lot about gout in your blogs and website, all over, and prayed. My gout is gone, I just have arthitis on my fingers, sometimes my feet hurt when I walk , oh also no BEER, but I still have some now and then. I’m continuing everything I have done above, i’m not changing back to my old ways of eating and ‘couch potato’ ways. Thanks to you for inspiration too!!! I know people with Gout are far worse than I was and it was scary seeing those pics of their feet. PS: I never went to the Dr. and took any kind of Meds. ALSO I bought a ‘grounding mat’ , read about it, it works.~ Ruben

Keep Taking Your Vitamin C

There are plenty of really important things that vitamin C does for us. What makes me absolutely madder-than-hell about is these goofball western medicine, allopathic studies and tests is that they try to make something like vitamin C some kind of drug! Drugs are all those guys know! They treat diseases…NOT PEOPLE!

Here are just a few of the good things that vitamin C does for us – gout or no gout. And I want you to know that it isn’t just me saying all this – I got this from – Vitamin C:

  • Boosts the immune system
  • Helps us to detoxify
  • Promotes cellular healing
  • Helps with good bacteria in the gut
  • Destroys harmful bacteria and viruses
  • Neutralizes free radical damage
  • Helps to remove heavy metals (that’s big as far as gout goes!)
  • Protects from the damaging effects of pollution

The more vitamin C you throw into your gout diet, the stronger and healthier you are…and that in and of itself is how you prevent gout. Do NOT fall for all the marketing hype from Big Pharma; this whole study was devised to make you think you HAD to take drugs for gout…that is total BS.

Vitamin C is fairly delicate – cooking pretty much kills it. Try to get it from fresh raw foods like red peppers and chili peppers, parsley, kiwi fruit and of course, oranges – but make sure all of that stuff is organic! What I’m getting much clearer about as I go on, is that trying to get every single thing we need to stay nutritionally in balance from our food alone is difficult, if not impossible. Find a good health food store and someone you trust to help you figure out your own specific deficiencies and the right stuff to eliminate them.

☆ Remember!  Vitamin C is still a good thing when it comes to gout prevention.

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
