Hi, I’m Bert Middleton. You might already know me as “The Gout Killer“.
But in case we’re meeting for the first time … I’m all too familiar with gout, and I know your pain.
Over thirteen years ago, I was losing my own personal battle against gout. The debilitating pain of regular gout attacks and the constant fear of future attacks was stealing years from my life.
There is no pain like gout pain, but I’m here to tell you that there is hope.
Once I started this simple diet over a decade ago, it has allowed me to live free of gout pain … ever since.
I hope this information will help you on your journey as well. You can take it or leave it, but it’s worked for me and continues to work for me — and so far, for thousands of others.
Part I: What to Eat for Gout
If you are new to the world of gout, you’ve probably been hearing a lot about purines and uric acid, but do you really understand exactly how these contribute to gout?
In almost every piece of material available about what to eat for gout, (except here) the primary focus is about avoiding purine rich foods.
The best diet for gout is NOT one that just avoids purines.
Yes, you do need to learn about and manage your purine intake … but getting onboard with a diet that will help treat your gout includes something way more important: support for your kidneys.
Purines are both “endogenous” and “exogenous”, meaning they come from sources outside our bodies, i.e. our food, and they are also part of our biological make-up.
The purines our bodies have to process and manage come from the foods we consume – about 30% – but the other 70% come from the normal and natural death and regeneration of the trillions of our very own cells.
These are the reasons why putting so much emphasis on avoiding high purine foods and trying to eat a low purine diet bring only marginal success when it comes to successfully controlling gout.
Keeping our body organs and systems functioning as well as we can, so they properly process and use the uric acid created, is our best defense against gout.
Did you know that your kidneys are responsible for “eliminating” uric acid? In other words, the uric acid inside your body passes through your kidneys, before ultimately getting “pee-d out”.
On a moment to moment basis – much like how are bodies regulate our blood glucose levels – the kidneys, monitor how much uric acid to hold on to, or how much to let go of.
So an important part of preventing the build-up of uric acid in your blood is to focus on creating the best kidney health you possibly can.
If your kidneys are not functioning at a high level, they will have a hard time holding on to, or letting go of, the uric acid and maintaining the proper amount in your bloodstream.
One of the best ways to keep your kidneys functioning in tip-top shape is to eat generous amounts of antioxidants.
The antioxidant power of foods is measured in “ORAC” scores – “Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity”. The higher the number, the better.
Here is a chart of some of the more common foods that are very HIGH in antioxidants. Eat lots of these!
Part II: “The Gout Killing Diet”
Many of the very important fat-soluble vitamins, (A, D, E, K) come from animal products as well as generous amounts of high quality, healthy fats. A good balance of healthy fats is essential for our bodies to have a strong anti-inflammatory response.
If you are struggling with gout, (which is why you are here) your body is most likely in an extreme state of acidosis. This means that you generally have a chronic overload of acidity which your kidneys are struggling to manage. Uric acid is just one of the many types of acidic substances that if mismanaged, can create hardship for your kidneys.
To give you a quick summary of “The Gout Killing Diet“, what we are looking for is acid/alkaline balance.
Understanding that some foods are alkaline-forming, and some foods are acid-forming, and that we need the correct ratios of both, is all you need to know to keep your gout at bay.
You want to eat more alkaline-forming foods than acid-forming foods.
I go over the exact ratios you need in my book What to Eat for Gout, but for the purpose of this guide and to keep it short and simple, you need to eat more alkaline-forming foods and limit your intake of acid-forming foods.
here’s a quick overview of some guidelines
Pin “The Gout Killing Diet” gout friendly food charts to your kitchen wall or fridge
I’ve created simple and easy to read charts showing you which foods help get rid of your gout, ordered by how beneficial each food is.
The charts also include which foods you need to avoid, categorized by how harmful they are for your gout.
So all you have to do is pin these charts to your kitchen wall … which is what we did!
If you glance over the charts before each meal, you will be well-guided and, before long you won’t have to look at the charts anymore, or at least as often.
All of these charts are included in What to Eat for Gout (see below).

About Bert Middleton
My name is Bert Middleton and I know your pain… Over a decade ago, I was losing my own personal battle against gout.
I honestly would have done anything to end my gout and stop the pain.
My wife and I spent thousands of hours and dollars researching treatments, trying different diets, testing prescriptions, and even consulting with a PhD board-certified specialist. Most of it didn’t work, and my gout only got worse.
Thirteen years passed, along with an endless string of gout attacks, surgeries for tophi, and continued treatments before I finally figured out how to stop my gout attacks for good. It was quite the journey though…
The hundreds of gout attacks I endured while trying to figure out how to actively stop an attack… The frustration of all the trial-and-error I went through while learning how to keep gout from coming back…
Countless hours of bleeding-eyeball online-research, plus all the time, effort, and energy it took to become a gout-specialized certified nutritionist… And the thousands of emails and phone calls I’ve had helping people with their gout…
All of this experience went into making sure my programs deliver rapid and sustainable results .
I’ve used these same exact methods to stay gout free for over 10 years now. I’m confident I’ll never have another gout attack and I want you to experience the same!
