Easy for you to say.

You and I both know gout is no laughing matter.  However, what can you do when you are hostage to the vicious gout beast inhabiting your big toe?  What options do you have for gout treatment?  Have another beer?  No.  Go for a run?  No.  Go to a movie?  …..maybe.  In fact, how ’bout a comedy?!

Laughing in the Face of Gout

Using laughter or humor to promote physical wellness and disease management has been around for a long time.  Most often, Norman Cousins, the late journalist and author, is credited for bringing humor to the forefront as a therapy.  He was misdiagnosed at an early age with tuberculosis, then later struggled with heart disease.  It was his personal battles that lead him to the study of human emotions and how the emotions influenced biochemistry.

What he found is that laughter is a great diversion.  It can make you feel good about yourself and it can change your perspective of the world around you.  (and with all the GMO crap going on these days, we need some comic relief from the jokers who have no idea how badly they are messing up the world)  Studies have shown that a few minutes of laughter can produce hours of physical well being.

Wish I’d known all this YEARS AGO!

Darn…  Wish I knew all of this info many years ago..Everything makes so much sense. Dork I have been for sure.LOL I cleaned homes for about 40 years using the chemicals they wanted me to use to keep their homes clean. I wore my body out and have suffered the consequences of the chosen profession.I have had butt loads of stress all my life, ate crappy foods.Never paid much attention to what organic foods offered..Just thought they were over priced so continued to eat garbage.I know now to skimp on other things to go organic in everything.I love our little natural foods store here in Montrose and when I lived in Co Springs I shopped at Wild Oats and Whole Foods. I chuckle right along with you in the sessions and you have a way of using cuss words that tickle my funny bone. The pics are priceless and last but not least my African grey laughs when you scream because I’m laughing! Laughter is good medicine! Thank you,Thank You for all the info and I will go over and over the sessions from time to time to laugh and refresh my memory.Remember I’m 71 next month and short term memory is not my best thing. No I don’t do Wacky Tobacky! He He (Grins)Till next time Bert…  ~ Doris

Laughter Medicine – What It Can Do For You

In the realm of cancer treatment, some of the studies have shown that a hefty dose of laughing can:

  • Improve circulation
  • Boost immunity
  • Increase oxygenation (good for gout!)
  • Improve respiration
  • Stimulate the heart
  • Relax muscles and relieve constriction
  • Release endorphins (our body’s natural pain killers)
  • Relieve pain (!!!)
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve sleep
  • Reduce the effects of stress
  • Enhance cognitive function and mental acuity
  • Promote relaxation

A good hearty belly laugh can do all of that?!!  Wow!  How’s that for a gout remedy!

Laughter Can Reduce Inflammation?

A study was done at Loma Linda University on 20 high risk diabetes patients for 12 months.  This was especially interesting to me because diabetes add to all kinds of renal complications and there is a well established connection between gout and kidney problems.

Interestingly enough, while on the exact same medications, the group using the “laughter therapy” had an astonishing increase in good cholesterol (HDL), a dramatic decrease in inflammation markers, (C-reactive proteins), and lower markers of stress levels.

They concluded that humor and laughter therapy can have a significant effect on lowering cardiovascular disease associated with type 2 diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome in general.  In case this is getting by you, THIS IS A BIG DEAL WHEN IT COMES TO GOUT!  Now you can laugh off your gout attack!  Additionally, the professional conclusion is that lifestyle choices (choose laughter!) play a central role in promoting good health and mitigating disease conditions.

Bottom-line: Gout is no laughing matter but if you want to get rid of it, laugh your ass off!

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
