“Treat The Symptoms”? What are the alternatives?

It isn’t surprising to hear Dr. Mercola speak of “treat the symptoms” in his videos when he talks about natural ways to deal with rheumatoid arthritis and gout treatment. Although treating the symptoms is not foremost of methods when it comes to finding natural and holistic ways to deal with arthritic conditions, but it does have some practical applications.

Dr. Mercola also related in the accompanying article a few lifestyle changes that have also played a part in ending my personal struggle with gout pain. The conventional western medicine approach to treat the symptoms did not produce lasting, long-term results.

Here is an abbreviation of Dr. Mercola’s list:

  • Eliminate sugar, especially fructose, and most grains.
  • Eat unprocessed, high-quality foods, organic and locally grown if possible.
  • Eat your food as close to raw as possible.
  • Get plenty high-quality animal-based omega-3 fats. (krill oil)
  • Astaxanthin, 4 mg per day, for those on prednisone.
  • Incorporate regular exercise into your daily schedule

It’s Not “Treat the Symptoms”…It’s About “Eat Good, Stay Fit”

Krill oil and astaxanthin are not particularly well-known. This is good information and an alternative, or at least an addition to allopurinol and as a way to treat the symptoms.
